Indian Glove Makers Urge Government to Enforce Quality Standards

New Delhi, May 22 (KNN) Indian glove manufacturers are urging the government to expedite the implementation of the Medical and Surgical Gloves Quality Control Order (QCO), citing concerns over public health and the influx of substandard imports.

While the industry appreciates the government's initiative to enforce quality standards, delays in enforcement have raised alarms among stakeholders.

The QCO aims to establish stringent quality benchmarks for medical and surgical gloves, ensuring the safety of healthcare professionals and patients.

However, the continued entry of low-quality gloves into the Indian market undermines these objectives and poses significant health risks.

Domestic glove manufacturers emphasise that immediate enforcement of the QCO is crucial not only for public health but also for the survival of local industries.

The unchecked import of inferior products threatens the competitiveness of Indian manufacturers, potentially leading to job losses and economic setbacks.

Industry representatives are calling for the government to set a definitive timeline for the QCO's implementation and to establish robust monitoring mechanisms.

Such measures would ensure compliance and protect both consumers and domestic businesses from the adverse effects of substandard imports.

The glove manufacturing sector in India plays a vital role in the healthcare supply chain.

Prompt action to enforce quality standards is essential to safeguard public health and support the nation's manufacturing capabilities.
