GI & Beyond 2.0 Summit Promotes GI-Tagged Handloom Products and Global Market Access

New Delhi, Aug 5 (KNN) The GI & Beyond 2.0 Summit, organised by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, in association with the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC), concluded in New Delhi with the launch of the Digital Handloom Atlas and presentation of new Geographical Indication (GI) certificates.

The Summit was held at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre and brought together government officials, exporters, overseas buyers, industry representatives, GI stakeholders, academics and weaver organisations.

Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita inaugurated the Summit. Secretary (Textiles) Smt. Neelam Shami Rao, Development Commissioner (Handlooms) Dr. M. Beena and Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) Smt. Amrit Raj were among the officials present.

New GI certificates were presented for Ladakh Nambu Textile, Ladakh Pashmina Textile, Himachal Gudma, Himachal Lingchay, Jharkhand Bamboo Craft, Jharkhand Tussar Silk Saree & Fabrics, Munda Jewellery of Jharkhand and Bareilly Terracotta.

The Digital Handloom Atlas, titled “One Platform. Endless Markets”, was launched to provide digital visibility to India's handloom products, including GI-tagged products, and facilitate market linkages for weavers and artisans.

The Summit featured more than 100 GI-registered handloom and handicraft products, thematic displays and live demonstrations by artisans and weavers.

Experts from IIT Madras made a presentation on the potential use of Artificial Intelligence in the GI ecosystem. Three technical sessions focused on GI registration and intellectual property rights, domestic promotion of GI products, and international market opportunities for GI-tagged handloom products.

The Diamond Jubilee Logo of HEPC was also unveiled to mark 60 years of the council's work in promoting India's handloom exports.
