Amidst heavy air pollution in Ahmadabad, NGT seeks a report on Petcoke Use

Ahmadabad, May 25 (KNN) Due to rising air pollution in Ahmadabad, National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered the formation of committee and sought a report from it on the industrial use of cheap fuel, petroleum coke (petcoke) around the city.

The Delhi Bench of NGT directed the joint committee which compromises representatives from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) to come out with the firm solution and factual and actionable report within the duration of one month.

At the same time committee was also ordered to mail its report to the tribunal.

The state government including the ministry of environment and forests ordered by NGT to clarify whether this petcoke is hazardous waste or not and issue the notice regarding the use of it.

It has also clarified that all the industrials willing to use the petcoke as their fuel have to obtain consent from the pollution board.
