Maharashtra govt plans to set up garment trading hub in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan 31 (KNN) The Maharashtra government is planning to set up a garment trading hub in Mumbai on the lines of China’s Guangzhou and Turkey’s Istanbul, said Minister of Textiles, Chandrakant Dada Patil on Monday.

Addressing the 76th National Garment Fair (NGF) of Clothing Manufacturers Association of India’s (CMAI), Patil said that the current textile policy that is set to expire in March 2023, is likely to be extended for another three months.

“A committee of 30 stakeholders, including two representatives of CMAI has been appointed and on their recommendation the government has decided to extend the duration of the current policy,” he said.

The current textile policy has been operational since 2018.

As per reports, the committee will submit its final report by March-end and based on these recommendations, the Maharashtra government will form its new textile policy.

The three-day-long NGF, which will end on February 1, has more than 950 stalls and over 1,000 brands on display.  (KNN Bureau)
