NGT directs CPCB to submit action report taken against over 50K industrial units operating in Delhi's residential areas without nod

New Delhi, Nov 15 (KNN) The National Green Tribunal has directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to submit action report taken against over 50,000 industrial units in capital city for operating in residential areas without the requisite approvals in the Capital.

The green panel has asked the CPCB to submit the action report within a month on the status of such industrial units.

It has been come into the notice of bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel that the apex pollution control board had provided “certain steps” taken and not a report on the action taken.

In its recent order dated November 13, the bench said “The report received from CPCB shows that certain steps have been taken including constitution of a two-member committee.”

However, the report of the action taken has not been furnished. The CPCB may accordingly secure and furnish report from the said two-member committee within one month, it added.

Earlier, the green panel had directed the three municipal corporations, Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) and Delhi Development Authority to assist the panel on this matter.

Also, the committee was asked to submit its report to the monitoring committee constituted by the NGT, comprising former Delhi Chief Secretary Shailja Chandra and former NGT expert member Bikram Singh Sajwan.

According to media reports, these industries were causing water and air pollution in the residential areas without having license of operation.
