Steel Industries should understand the concerns of consumers and address them aptly

Guwahati, June 22 (KNN) Steel producing authorities should understand the concerns of consumers and address them aptly, keeping the needs of consumers at importance, said Faggan Singh Kulaste, Union Minister of State for Steel.

Speaking here at an interactive program organized by the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL), he said “Manufacturing units of steel should be able to understand and address all the needs for becoming Consumer Friendly as steel is required in almost all types of construction work and is needed by all.”

Poor connectivity in the region has always been a major bottleneck for transportation of steel and iron and products, he said, adding that the Northeast are working towards overcoming the challenge.

He asserted that the steel industries play a crucial role in fostering sustainable socio-economic development but connectivity has been one of the major challenges that has been fostering their growth for transportation of Steel and Iron products.

In the last few years, the Northeast have tried to overcome these challenges to a large extent and eliminate the challenge of connectivity, Kulaste added.

State Transport and Industries Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, while deliberating on the importance of steel in nation-building, said the Centre's thrust on the Act East Policy has opened up new vistas for the region.

"Steel industry provides the base for all industries. Steel is required in almost all types of construction work - right from manufacturing ships, trains, trucks, to constructing bridges and buildings," he said, urging Kulaste to open a steel manufacturing plant and an alloy factory in Assam to cater to the ASEAN market.
