TN govt to form expert committee for MSME

Chennai, Jun 21 (KNN) In a bid to formulate schemes for revival of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), the Tamil Nadu government will form an expert committee, said the state Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

Delivering his customary address to the newly constituted 16th Legislative Assembly on Monday, the Governor said, ''an expert committee consisting of industrialists, banking and financial experts and government officials will be constituted to formulate schemes for revival of MSMEs.''

The Governor further said the government will also constitute an "Economic advisory council to the Chief Minister" with leading economic experts from all over the world as its members.

"Based on the recommendations of this council, the government will revitalise the state's economy and ensure that the benefits of economic growth reach all segments of society," Purohit added.

Purohit said that the Economic Advisory Council would constitute former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, Nobel Laureate Esther Duflo, former Chief Economic Adviser to Union government Arvind Subramanian, development economist Jean Dreze and former Union Finance Secretary S Narayan.

He further said that the focus of industrial policy will be on further diversification of the industrial base of Tamil Nadu, both geographically and sectorally and to ensure technological upgradation.

The Governor also said that a white paper on Tamil Nadu’s finances will be released within two weeks.
