New Delhi, 7 Jan (KNN) The President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) TV Narendran has emphasized the need for the government to introduce a programme similar to that of production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme to incentivise employment generation directly.

He told this during his interview with FE, and further stated, Such programme should link incentives to job creation and target employment-intensive sectors like textiles and garments, gems and jewellery etc.

Narendran has also suggested government must forge index-based contracts with entities which are small and medium enterprises instead of fixed-price ones.

Speaking about the upcoming budget, he opined that it should continue to support consumption through greater outlay for programmes like the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Given the current situation due to omicron, Narendran commented that regardless of some down-side risks it poses the overall sentiments were very upbeat.
