Surat's Textile Units Protest Against Anti-Dumping Duty On Viscose Filament Yarn

ENA State 2023-10-25 15:21:49 Surat, Oct 25 (KNN) The Surats textile units have decided to join hands to battle against the Directorate General of Trade and Remedies (DGTR) order over the imposition of anti-dumping duty on imported viscose filament yarn (VFY), reported The Blunt Times. The powerloom industry had experienced a significant boost when anti-dumping duty on VFY was removed during the year 2017-18. Empowered by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India initiative, powerloom weavers have modernized their facilities with cutting-edge technology and high-speed machinery. Yet, the reintroduction of anti-dumping duties on VFY jeopardizes their access to premium imported yarn, possibly compelling weavers to depend on locally-produced lower-grade yarn. Ashok Jirawala, president of Federation of Gujarat Weavers Welfare Association (FOGWA) said, The imported yarn is more expensive, but it delivers superior results. Weavers wouldnt turn to imported yarn if local manufacturers could meet their quality standards. Unfortunately, local spinners have failed to improve the quality of their yarn, and they are now seeking anti-dumping duties to eliminate the competition posed by imported yarn. Several prominent associations that have joined hands to protest against DGTRs order includes FOGWA, Surat Autolooms Weavers Association, Surat Viscose Weavers Association, Surat Art Silk Cloth Manufacturers Association (SASCMA), Sachin Industrial Co. Op. Society Ltd., Surat Textile Club-Association, Jolwa Weavers Association, and The Udhana Group Weavers Producers Co-Op. Society.
