MSME-DFO & IICT Launch Entrepreneurship Programs For Carpet Artisans In Kashmir

ENA State 2024-01-10 13:56:31 Kashmir, Jan 10 (KNN) The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development and Facilitation Office (MSME - DFO), in partnership with the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology (IICT), has launched two six-week Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programs (ESDP) for artisans in Maharajpora, Khanpora and Handwara areas of Baramulla and Kupwara districts. This initiative is committed to safeguarding the esteemed tradition of handcrafted carpet making in the Kashmir region. These Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programs strive to elevate the skills of local carpet weaving artisans, imparting valuable entrepreneurial knowledge to sustain their craft. In collaboration with the IICT, the initiative ensures that the training aligns with industry standards and best practices. Saheel Alaqband, Assistant Director of the MSME Ministry, Kashmir and Zubair Ahmad Mir, the Director of IICT Srinagar, the regions of Maharajpora, Khanpora and Handwara to engage directly with the participants. Throughout their visit, they provided participants with an overview of the program's goals, emphasising the significance of preserving and promoting the distinctive art of carpet making in the Kashmir region. Alaqband, expressing the government's dedication to supporting and uplifting the artisan community, stated, The rich heritage of carpet making in Kashmir is an integral part of our cultural identity. He mentioned, Through these skill development programs, we aim to empower participants with the tools they need to thrive in a competitive market while preserving the authenticity of their craft. Additionally, inputs on entrepreneurship from various stakeholders will help them establish their micro-units, he further added.
