Women SHGs Curate ‘Asmithe’ Exhibition To Showcase Karnataka’s Finest Handicrafts

ENA State 2024-01-24 16:32:54 Bengaluru, Jan 24 (KNN) The IAS Officers Association hosted the grand opening of 'Asmithe,' a vibrant three-day exhibition showcasing the rich heritage of regional handicrafts, including colorful sarees, intricate terracotta artwork, and an array of handicrafts such as home decor items and bags. The event, inaugurated by Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh, aims to celebrate the talents of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and empower women entrepreneurs. A total of 58 women entrepreneurs from diverse regions of the state, such as Shivamogga, Channapatna, Mysuru, and Bidar's Bidri, have gathered to exhibit their creative products. The spotlight is on Geographical Indication (GI) products like Channapatna toys, Bidri jewelry, and unique home decor pieces. Siddhant Srivastava, the programme manager (Livelihood) at Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Promotion Society (KSRLPS), highlighted the organisation's role in identifying and supporting artisans from both rural and urban areas. The SHG members, particularly women, receive comprehensive training in marketing strategies, product and design enhancements, and financial support as needed. The 'Asmithe' exhibition is open to the public until Wednesday, offering a unique opportunity to appreciate and purchase these authentic and skilfully crafted products. The overarching goal of these exhibitions is to uplift local handicrafts and provide a platform for artisans to showcase their talents to the wider public.
