Surat’s Textile MSMEs Plans for Energy-Efficient, Low-Carbon Future

ENA State 2024-06-27 16:41:04 Surat, Jun 27 (KNN) In a landmark move, Surat's textile micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are set to take their first steps towards sustainable development on Thursday. This initiative comes as a result of a collaborative effort between government agencies and industry bodies, marking a significant shift in the sector's approach to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility. The Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA), Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), South Gujarat Textile Processors Association (SGTPA), and the US-based think tank WRI-India have joined forces to host an 'Energy Efficiency and Finance Workshop' on International MSME Day. The workshop's primary focus will be on empowering MSMEs with the knowledge and tools necessary to adopt energy-efficient technologies. This initiative is part of the broader RISE Surat program, which aims to equip 50 MSMEs and 500 workers with the skills needed for a low-carbon future. The program focuses on four fundamental pillars: climate resilience, decarbonisation, skilling, and financing. WRI-India, in a statement, emphasised the importance of this event in providing MSMEs with the necessary support to drive the transition towards low-carbon industries. The organisation, along with GPCB and SGTPA, has already initiated skilling training in all four pillars of the RISE Surat initiative. This event is expected to draw about 80 participants, including MSME owners, policymakers, and representatives from technology providers and financing agencies such as SIDBI. Experts from central and state governments, along with industry leaders like Jitendra Vakharia, president of SGTPA, will share their insights and experiences during the conference. This workshop represents a critical juncture for Surat's textile industry, long known for its vibrant and dynamic nature. By embracing sustainable practices, these MSMEs are not only addressing environmental concerns but also positioning themselves for long-term economic viability in an increasingly eco-conscious global market. The success of this initiative could potentially reshape the future of India's MSME sector, balancing economic growth with environmental stewardship.
