Legislators debated the importance of not only addressing existing financial burdens but also implementing a more efficient process for future financial assistance to reinvigorate the industry.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">A key initiative proposed during the session was the establishment of an international-standard leather hub cluster and training centre on two acres of land in Govandi.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">This project aims to modernise the industry and enhance workforce skills, potentially increasing Maharashtra's competitiveness in the global leather market.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The Minister of Water Supply and Sanitation acknowledged the industry's ongoing financial challenges, stating, We are exploring the possibility of a one-time settlement for existing loans. This indicates the government's awareness of the sector's financial difficulties and the need for potential solutions.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The council also discussed educational advancements within the industry. Proposals for initiating leather engineering degrees and related courses were put forward, aimed at fostering innovation and expertise in the field.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Legislators emphasised the contrast between Mumbai's status as a financial capital and the current state of its leather industry. One member noted, Mumbai is home to big brands, yet the community responsible for leather goods faces significant challenges, calling for new schemes with advanced training for industry workers.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The debate also focused on modernising retail infrastructure for leather goods.
