Lack Of Water Supply Hinders Growth In Agar’s Industrial Area, MSMEs Appeal To Government

ENA MSME 2024-09-23 14:57:28 Bhopal, Sep 23 (KNN) The industrial sector in Agar is facing significant challenges due to the lack of water supply in the region's sole industrial belt, prompting urgent appeals to the state government for improved infrastructure. The industrial area, developed by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) department, currently houses approximately 50 operational industries across 76 plots. Despite its importance to the local economy, the zone lacks a reliable water supply system, forcing businesses to rely on groundwater or water tankers to meet their operational needs. Rajesh Arora, President, Laghu Udyog Bharati, Agar district, stated, We have submitted numerous representations to the MSME department to arrange for water supply in the Agar industrial area. He added, There are 46 industries operating from the industrial area, and all have to rely on groundwater or tanker supply to meet industrial demand. The water scarcity has reportedly impacted capacity utilisation and hindered expansion plans for many businesses in the area. An anonymous industrialist commented, Water, electricity, and roads are fundamental infrastructure necessities for any industrial area. Agar has only one industrial area where close to 50 industries operate, and there is no water supply. We all have to make our own arrangements. In response to the growing industrial needs, the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) is developing a new industrial area on over 100 hectares in Agar. The project is set to be constructed in phases, with the initial phase covering approximately 60 hectares. However, industrialists express hesitation about acquiring space in the new development, citing concerns over the lack of basic amenities. The absence of essential infrastructure, particularly water supply, is seen as a significant deterrent for both existing industries considering expansion and new businesses looking to establish operations in the area. As the situation unfolds, local industry representatives continue to urge state authorities to address these infrastructure gaps, emphasising the critical role of reliable water supply in fostering industrial growth and economic development in the region.
