CUTS Intl Holds Cybersecurity Workshop for Small Businesses In Durgapur, WB

ENA State 2024-12-26 15:00:16 Durgapur, Dec 26 (KNN) In a landmark move to bolster the digital security of small businesses, CUTS International and the Young Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce and Industries (YECCI) on Tuesday, hosted a Capacity Building Workshop on Cybersecurity for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Durgapur. This initiative, supported by the APAC Cybersecurity Fund (ACF) project and backed by Google.org and The Asia Foundation, signifies the first step in a transformative two-year programme. The workshop saw active participation from 70 entrepreneurs, including 20 women leaders, representing diverse sectors like rice mills, legal services, mining, real estate, and tribal support. Notable dignitaries included Abul Kalam Azad Islam, Commissioner, Durgapur Municipal Corporation; Subir Roy, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Durgapur; Dilip Kumar, Chairman, YECCI; and Sanchita Chatterjee, Fellow, CUTS International. Commissioner Islam underscored the urgency of cybersecurity in the rapidly digitising MSME sector, while Assistant Commissioner Roy highlighted the alarming rise in cybercrime incidents in West Bengal, especially those targeting businesses via social media and malicious loan applications. Their insights emphasised the necessity of such training programs in safeguarding the digital infrastructure of small businesses. The day-long workshop featured hands-on sessions focusing on key cybersecurity practices, including password management, IT inventory maintenance, software updates, cyber-attack prevention, and data backup strategies. Chandan Mishra of the Cyber Cell Police Station, Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate, led an interactive session, shedding light on the psychological tactics behind cybercrimes and the importance of vigilance and rational decision-making in preventing scams. This initiative, targeting over 20,000 MSMEs across ten Indian states, aims to build a resilient cybersecurity framework for the small business ecosystem. By equipping entrepreneurs with essential digital skills, CUTS International and YECCI are fostering a safer, more sustainable future for Indias MSME sector. As cyber threats evolve, such proactive measures ensure that small businesses are not left vulnerable, empowering them to thrive in an increasingly digital economy.
