Avadi Ordinance Factory Exports Rs.1.71 Cr Uniform Order To Suriname Military

ENA Global 2025-01-29 15:53:34 Chennai, Jan 29 (KNN) In a significant milestone for India's defense exports, the Ordnance Clothing Factory (OCF) Avadi, a unit of Defence PSU Troop Comforts Limited under the Ministry of Defence, executed its first defense export order to the Republic of Suriname on Tuesday. The shipment, comprising 4,500 military uniforms valued at Rs 1.71 crores, represents a diplomatic goodwill gesture between the two nations. B.S. Reddy, General Manager of Indian Ordnance Factories Service, who presided over the flag-off ceremony, emphasised the diplomatic significance of this initiative. These military uniforms are offered by the Ministry of Defence (GOI) to the Ministry of Defence (Suriname) to strengthen the diplomatic relationships between the two countries, stated Reddy. The consignment is expected to reach Suriname's port within 60-70 days, with OCF anticipating subsequent orders worth approximately Rs 5 crores based on the quality of these initial deliverables. The export initiative aligns with broader national objectives, as highlighted by M. Jaya Singh, IIS, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Defence. To further strengthen international relationships between countries, the central government aims to achieve an export target worth Rs 50,000 crores by 2029, and the OCF Avadi will also play a major part in this initiative, Singh explained during the ceremony. OCF Avadi has established itself as a crucial manufacturer of specialised defense products, including bullet-resistant jackets, helmets, vests, canine BRJ equipment, bomb suppression blankets, and ballistic briefcases. Reddy underscored the facility's unique position in India's defense manufacturing landscape, noting, We have significantly expanded our R&D efforts, yielding fruitful results. We are the only factory in India to establish Bullet-proof jackets. The facility's products have garnered significant domestic recognition, receiving positive responses from various state governments including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Odisha, as well as the National Police Academy. This export milestone marks OCF Avadi's entry into the international market, potentially paving the way for expanded defense cooperation between India and Suriname.
