IICA Signs MoU With CMAI To Boost India's Decarbonisation Efforts

ENA Sectors 2025-02-06 15:41:40 New Delhi, Feb 6 (KNN) The Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) and Carbon Market Association of India (CMAI) have formalised their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in New Delhi. The agreement was unveiled during the opening of the IICA-CMAI Masterclass on Global & Indian Carbon Markets on February 4, 2025, with Road, Transport & Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari as the chief guest. During the event, Minister Gadkari emphasised India's commitment to alternative energy sources, particularly highlighting the potential of biofuels and green hydrogen in the nation's economic and environmental strategy. He expressed confidence in India's capability to achieve hydrogen production costs of one dollar per kilogram, citing ongoing research and development initiatives. The minister also announced that India is positioned to become an exporter of green hydrogen, despite current challenges related to initial capital and technology costs. The collaboration between IICA and CMAI aims to strengthen India's position in carbon markets and advance decarbonisation efforts. Dr Garima Dadhich, Head, IICA's School of Business Environment, announced that their Certificate Programme in Decarbonisation will focus on developing corporate expertise in carbon offset mechanisms and long-term operational decarbonisation strategies. CMAI President Manish Dabkara emphasised the significance of this partnership in building a robust carbon market ecosystem in India. The agreement encompasses several key areas of cooperation, including specialised training programs, joint research initiatives, organisation of workshops and conferences, and policy advocacy to support India's net-zero ambitions. The inaugural day of the Masterclass attracted over 70 professionals from various sectors, including corporate leaders, public sector undertakings, government bodies, and international organisations. The event, part of India Climate Week, featured case study discussions led by Senior Research Associate Shivangi Vashishta and concluded with a session by ERM India's Managing Partner. The IICA, operating as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, focuses on promoting responsible business conduct through its School of Business Environment. Meanwhile, CMAI serves as a non-profit industry association working closely with key government ministries to facilitate India's transition to a net-zero future, particularly in hard-to-abate sectors.
