ENA State 2025-02-12 14:00:15 <p><span style="font-size:14px"><strong>Panaji, Feb 12 (KNN)</strong> The Government of Goa has announced its State Amritkal Agriculture Policy 2025, a comprehensive framework aimed at transforming the agricultural sector into a modern, sustainable, and integral component of the state's economy. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, speaking at the policy announcement on Tuesday, emphasised the government's commitment to implementing the policy within the next decade through necessary legislative amendments and monthly implementation reviews.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The policy introduces several significant institutional changes, including the establishment of the Goa State Coconut, Cashew, and Mango Development Board, modeled after similar central government institutions. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Additionally, the government plans to issue notifications regarding sugarcane procurement rates, establishing a structured system where farmers can deliver their produce directly to factories for payment.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">In addressing the policy's core objectives, Chief Minister Sawant highlighted the importance of preserving Goa's agricultural heritage, drawing parallels with the state's successful tourism sector. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The policy framework emphasises environmental protection, with the Goa State Pollution Control Board being empowered to take action against entities releasing sewage into agricultural lands and water bodies.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The government has demonstrated its commitment to farmer welfare through the distribution of 17,000 kisan credit cards, with plans to expand this initiative further. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">A cornerstone of the policy is the proposed New Goa Farmers Welfare Act, which aims to guarantee livelihood security for farmers while streamlining governmental procedures.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik detailed the extensive consultation process that informed the policy's development, citing 189 meetings and 3,700 public suggestions. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The minister emphasised that the policy includes measures to prevent agricultural land conversion, incorporating feedback from all panchayats to ensure comprehensive coverage.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The policy's vision encompasses the creation of an inclusive agricultural ecosystem that prioritises farmer welfare, ensures fair labor practices, and promotes the participation of women and youth in the agricultural sector. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">This comprehensive approach aims to establish agriculture as a sustainable and profitable cornerstone of Goa's economy, ultimately contributing to the enhanced well-being of local communities.</span></p> <p><em><strong><span style="font-size:14px">(KNN Bureau)</span></strong></em><br /> </p> 41033 https://knnindia.co.in/news/newsdetails/state/goa-unveils-amritkal-agriculture-policy-2025-to-boost-sustainable-farming 2025-02-12 14:00:15 knnindia.co.in
