Mumbai, Feb 14 (KNN) Tata.ev, Indias leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has announced an ambitious plan to expand the countrys EV charging infrastructure significantly.

The company aims to more than double the number of charge points to 400,000 by 2027, ensuring greater accessibility for EV users nationwide.

Currently, India has 18,000 public chargers and over 150,000 private or home/office chargers. With the growing EV population, charger utilisation rates have risen from an initial 3-4 per cent to over 20 per cent in prime locations.

Mass-deployed chargers generally break even at a utilisation rate of 10-15 per cent, highlighting the increasing demand for robust charging infrastructure.

Tata.evs Open Collaboration framework, launched in 2023, has played a significant role in expanding public charging points, doubling them to over 18,000 in just 15 months.

The company has also installed over 150,000 private chargers, 2,500 community chargers, and 750 dealership chargers.

Now, with Open Collaboration 2.0, Tata.ev aims to nearly double public chargers by deploying 30,000 new fast chargers across major cities and highways, ensuring seamless long-distance mobility.

A key focus of this expansion is high-speed charging infrastructure. Fast chargers are projected to make up 60 per cent of all public installations by 2027.

To support this, Tata.ev is introducing the Tata.ev Mega Charger network in collaboration with Tata Power, ChargeZone, Statiq, and Zeon.

The first phase will see 500 mega chargers installed over the next 12 months, offering priority access and preferential tariffs for Tata.ev customers.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, stated: Electrification cannot happen without solving range anxiety and charging infrastructure. Customer experience is fundamental.

To enhance convenience, Tata.ev is launching Tata.ev Verified Chargers, a 24/7 charging helpline, and a unified payment wallet through the iRA.ev app.

The company is also working on making EVs more affordable, targeting a price range of Rs 13,00,000 with a 400-500 km range in the coming years.

As Indias EV ecosystem evolves, Tata.ev remains committed to industry-wide growth, government collaboration, and a seamless charging experience for the next generation of EV users.

(KNN Bureau)
