Maharashtra Deputy CM Orders Resolution of Pending Worker Dues

ENA State 2025-02-18 16:25:24 Mumbai, Feb 18 (KNN) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has directed the Industry Department to prioritise resolving long-pending worker dues, some of which have been unsettled for years. His directive comes amid increasing reports of a power struggle between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shinde, as both leaders establish parallel offices to oversee key projects. During a review meeting at the Sahyadri Guest House, Shinde instructed the formation of a special cell to monitor struggling industries, update relevant data, and ensure timely action on workers' pending payments. He stressed the need for urgent measures to support workers affected by the financial collapse of sick and closed factories. The special cell will include representatives from labour departments and industry experts. It will track industries already under the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) or those at risk of being referred there. The government plans to push for prioritising worker payments in NCLT proceedings to safeguard their financial interests. Shinde has also called for engagement with relevant authorities to propose amendments to the Company Law, aiming to strengthen protections for workers' rights and ensure they receive their rightful dues. In a separate move, Shinde has established a medical aid cell at the ministry, despite the existence of the Chief Ministers Relief Fund (CMRF) cell. This new initiative, reportedly the first of its kind in Maharashtra, is seen as another indicator of the ongoing friction within the Mahayuti alliance, particularly regarding the appointment of guardian ministers. Headed by Shindes close aide, Mangesh Chivate, the medical aid cell will not provide direct financial assistance but will work closely with the state health ministry to coordinate medical aid for those in need. These recent developments highlight Shindes increasing involvement in key administrative matters, potentially reshaping Maharashtras political and industrial landscape. However, the ongoing power struggle within the state government continues to raise questions about the efficiency of governance and decision-making in the state.
