Skill Development, Sustainability, And Competitiveness Key To Viksit Bharat 2047: CIM

ENA Economy 2025-02-28 14:36:44 New Delhi, Feb 28 (KNN) Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, inaugurated the 'Bharat Calling Conference 2025' organised by IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Mumbai on February 27. The conference focused on the theme 'Path to Viksit Bharat 2047: Pioneering Prosperity for All,' highlighting India's position at the forefront of global economic growth. In his keynote address, Goyal emphasised the significant opportunities emerging in India with its 1.4 billion population, particularly among aspirational young people. He noted the country's deep commitment to manufacturing, skill development, and innovation, factors that position India as the world's emerging investment destination. The minister highlighted how government initiatives including Make in India, Digital India, Startup India, Swachh Bharat, and Atmanirbhar Bharat have collectively prepared the nation to be resilient and self-sufficient while becoming a more significant player in global trade. Goyal identified five key enablers for achieving Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047: Quality Management and Handholding of Small Business, Sustainability, Inclusive Growth, Skill Development, and Competitiveness and Efficiency. He stated that India cannot become a developed nation without opening its businesses to international trade. The Commerce Minister emphasised that India is at the cusp of a quality revolution, noting that quality has been the biggest casualty in the country's past. He urged businesses to adopt modern quality standards and ensure proper training for good manufacturing practices. Goyal revealed that approximately 700 quality control orders exist in the country and advocated for quality control initiatives by business chambers like IMC. On sustainability, Goyal highlighted its importance in trade and commerce, adding that Indian traditions have reflected consciousness for sustainability for thousands of years. He stressed that development cannot occur without inclusive growth, for which the government has implemented targeted interventions including ease of living initiatives and nationwide infrastructure development. Goyal also underscored the importance of skill-building initiatives to create more jobs and strengthen the economy, announcing that two additional skill development centres are planned for North Mumbai, following the launch of a state-of-the-art facility in Mumbai's Kandivali area last year. The minister concluded by emphasising that increasing efficiency and competitiveness is crucial, encouraging businesses to thrive on competitive strength and engage confidently with the world rather than depending on government subsidies and incentives. Among the dignitaries present were Rosslyn Bates, Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training from Queensland, Australia, and IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Sanjaya Mariwala.
