Women Entrepreneurs To Get Priority In Small Industrial Plot Allocations in Goa

ENA State 2025-03-06 16:06:00 New Delhi, Mar 6 (KNN) Goa Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho has announced that women applicants seeking small industrial plots will receive priority over other entrepreneurs, a move aimed at boosting female participation in the state's micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector. Speaking at a national MSME workshop organised by ASSOCHAM, Godinho emphasised that increased inclusion of women in industry will contribute significantly to economic growth and entrepreneurship in Goa. The priority is getting women to the fore and encouraging more women entrepreneurs, he stated, adding that the Goa Industrial Development Corporation had recently passed a resolution ensuring 30 per cent of smaller plots would be allocated to women entrepreneurs. The minister expressed confidence that this new policy, coupled with a missionary zeal to promote self-employment and enterprise, would help propel the state's economy forward. He has also directed industry officials to intensify outreach efforts to support small entrepreneurs and self-help groups (SHGs) at the grassroots level. During his latest meeting with the industry secretary and director of industries, Godinho instructed officials to refine their approach. We must double our presence among small entrepreneurs and SHGs to ensure they receive adequate support, he said, reiterating that women entrepreneurs will receive priority in all future industrial plot allocations and would have greater priority compared to general-category applicants. The minister noted that Goa's economy is diversifying beyond tourism, with the MSME sector playing a vital role in driving growth. We are implementing policies to simplify business processes, enhance transparency, and promote sustainable development, he said, highlighting the need for financial and technological support to strengthen the MSME sector. Godinho urged agencies like NABARD and SIDBI to facilitate access to microfinance, research and development, and digital tools, observing that lack of awareness and knowledge prevents our youth, entrepreneurs, and women from seizing business opportunities.
