The FTA, finalised after extensive negotiations, includes provisions that reduce tariffs on various British exports to India, such as whisky, medical devices, and automobiles. In return, India is expected to benefit from increased access to the UK market for its goods, including textiles and food products. However, farmers' unions are concerned that the agreement may lead to an influx of cheaper agricultural imports, potentially undermining domestic production and affecting local markets. They fear that without adequate safeguards, the deal could expose Indian agriculture to unfair competition, particularly from subsidized agricultural products.
