Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that any country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS, will be charged an additional 10 per cent Tariff with no exceptions to the policy. The threat came as BRICS leaders gathered for their two-day summit, where they criticised what they termed indiscriminate US import tariffs. The emerging nations bloc, which accounts for approximately half the world's population and 40 percent of global economic output, found common ground in opposing US trade policies despite internal divisions on other issues. In their summit declaration, BRICS members expressed serious concerns about rising tariffs that they characterised as inconsistent with World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules. The group argued that such trade restrictions threaten to reduce global trade, disrupt global supply chains, and introduce uncertainty into the global economy, though they avoided directly naming Trump in their criticism.
