Tirupur Yarn Manufacturers Form Association to Tackle Rising Costs and Industry Challenges

ENA State 2025-07-14 15:57:02 Chennai, Jul 14 (KNN) In response to escalating production costs and delayed buyer payments, yarn manufacturers in Tamil Nadus Tirupur district have come together to form the Tirupur Yarn Manufacturers Association (TYMA). The newly launched body aims to revive the struggling yarn sector and restore profitability. Tirupur, a key textile hub, houses over 50 yarn mills that supply raw material to the districts booming knitwear industry. Despite the growing demand in domestic and international knitwear markets—expected to soon reach Rs 1 lakh crore—yarn manufacturers say they are unable to keep pace due to increasing operational hurdles. Executive members of TYMA stated that the industry has been under severe strain for over five years. Factors such as rising cotton prices, higher electricity tariffs, and delayed payments from clients have severely impacted sustainability. In the past 10 days alone, the price of cotton—the industrys primary raw material—has increased by Rs 2,000 per candy (356 kg), throwing production costs and planning into turmoil. Manufacturers say they are unable to pass on these cost hikes to buyers, resulting in shrinking profit margins. Though the downstream knitwear sector is growing, the yarn manufacturing segment is not progressing at the same rate, a TYMA member noted. We are the backbone of the value chain but remain under intense pressure, reported TOI. The association has called on the Cotton Corporation of India to step in and stabilise cotton prices to ensure long-term viability of the textile ecosystem. With the formation of TYMA, members aim to build a unified platform to represent their issues, engage with the government, and push for policies that will support the sectors revival.
