ENA Sectors 2025-07-18 15:05:44 New Delhi, Jul 18 (KNN) The Ministry of Heavy Industries announced on Thursday that the government has begun formulating the Automotive Mission Plan 2047 (AMP 2047), a comprehensive strategic roadmap designed to position India as a global automotive leader by 2047. The initiative aligns with the 'Viksit Bharat @2047' vision and emphasises innovation and sustainability as core pillars of India's automotive sector development. Seven specialised sub-committees comprising experts from government institutions, industry bodies, and academic organisations have been established to guide the development of the comprehensive plan. These committees will set specific milestones for 2030, 2037, and 2047, focusing on sectoral growth, export expansion, and industry advancement to increase India's participation in global automotive trade. Additional Secretary in the Heavy Industries Ministry Hanif Qureshi emphasised that the 2047 vision represents more than an aspiration. The vision for 2047 is not an aspiration but a strategic road map backed by concrete targets for sector growth, exports, and industry advancement. We must think beyond specific technologies or companies and focus on India's global standing in 2047, aiming to increase our share in global automotive trade through innovation and quality, Qureshi stated. The inaugural meeting of the AMP 2047 Sub-Committees was conducted under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with guidance from Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy. The initiative represents a collaborative effort involving multiple government ministries, industry associations, academic institutions, and testing agencies to ensure comprehensive industry-led development. The plan seeks to integrate perspectives from various stakeholders, including Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), auto component manufacturers, policymakers, academia, and end users. This collaborative approach aims to address critical challenges such as technological advancements and charging infrastructure development that are essential for the sector's growth. Representatives from several key ministries participated in the meeting, including the Ministry of Power, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), and the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change. Industry bodies such as the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) also contributed to the discussions alongside academic institutions, research think tanks, and testing agencies. The current Automotive Mission Plan 2016-2026 (AMP 2026) has established ambitious targets for the Indian automotive industry, aiming to position it among the world's top three in engineering, manufacturing, and exports of vehicles and components. The plan projects the sector's growth to exceed 12 percent of India's GDP while generating an additional 65 million jobs, providing a foundation for the more expansive 2047 vision.
