Govt Approves Rs 8,308 Crore Capital Region Ring Road Project In Odisha

ENA State 2025-08-20 15:24:37 Bhubaneswar, Aug 20 (KNN) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has granted approval for the construction of a six-lane access-controlled Capital Region Ring Road in Odisha. The 110.875-kilometer Bhubaneswar Bypass project will be developed under the Hybrid Annuity Mode at a total capital cost of Rs 8,307.74 crore. The new infrastructure aims to address severe traffic congestion currently experienced along the Rameshwar-Tangi corridor on existing National Highway routes. Heavy traffic volumes passing through the densely urbanized cities of Khordha, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack have created significant transportation bottlenecks in the region. The project will be developed as a six-lane access-controlled greenfield highway designed to divert heavy commercial traffic away from the three major cities. This strategic routing is expected to enhance freight movement efficiency while reducing logistics costs and stimulating socio-economic growth across Odisha and other eastern states. The ring road's alignment will integrate with three major National Highways—NH-55, NH-57, and NH-655—along with State Highway SH-65, establishing seamless connectivity to key economic, social, and logistics centres throughout the state. The upgraded corridor will connect 10 economic nodes, four social nodes, and five logistics nodes, facilitating enhanced multimodal integration. Transportation infrastructure improvements include connections to one major railway station, one airport, one proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Park, and two major ports. These linkages are designed to accelerate the movement of goods and passengers across the region while strengthening connectivity between major religious and economic centres. The project is anticipated to generate substantial employment opportunities, creating approximately 74.43 lakh person-days of direct employment and 93.04 lakh person-days of indirect employment. Officials expect the bypass to serve as a catalyst for regional economic growth, opening new avenues for trade and industrial development in surrounding areas upon completion.
