10 Highway Corridors To Get Hydrogen-Powered Trucks & Refueling Stations: Gadkari

ENA Economy 2025-09-04 16:12:49 New Delhi, Sep 4 (KNN) The government has earmarked 10 highway stretches across the country to deploy green hydrogen-powered trucks as part of efforts to curb vehicular pollution, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday. The proposed corridors will be equipped with hydrogen refueling stations to be set up by Indian Oil Corporation and Reliance Petroleum. Gadkari noted that leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, including Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland and Volvo, have already begun producing hydrogen-fueled trucks. The identified stretches include Greater Noida Delhi Agra, Bhubaneswar Puri Konark, Ahmedabad Vadodara Surat, Sahibabad Faridabad Delhi, Jamshedpur Kalinganagar, Thiruvananthapuram Kochi, and Jamnagar Ahmedabad, among others. Highlighting the urgency of addressing environmental concerns, Gadkari described climate change as the biggest challenge facing India. He underlined the need for robust infrastructure to achieve the governments target of making India a USD 5 trillion economy and the worlds third-largest economy. The minister also stressed Indias potential to emerge as a leading exporter of green hydrogen, adding that lower logistics costs would enhance competitiveness. He said Indias logistics costs are expected to fall to single digits by December this year. According to studies conducted by IIM Bangalore, IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur, Indias road logistics expenses have already dropped by six percentage points. Gadkari further stated that the governments long-term objective is to position Indias automobile industry as the largest in the world within the next five years.
