ENA Sectors 2025-09-11 15:34:46 New Delhi, Sep 11 (KNN) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has cleared the doubling of the Bhagalpur Dumka Rampurhat single railway line, spanning 177 km through Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, with an estimated investment of Rs 3,169 crore. The project is aimed at easing congestion, boosting mobility, and improving service reliability on one of the busiest stretches of the Indian Railways network. Officials noted that the initiative aligns with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, which focuses on integrated infrastructure development, multi-modal connectivity, and logistics efficiency. The railway line expansion will span five districts in the three states, directly benefiting about 441 villages and nearly 28.7 lakh people, including three Aspirational Districts — Banka, Godda, and Dumka. The project also enhances access to key pilgrimage destinations such as Deoghar (Baba Baidyanath Dham) and Tarapith (Shakti Peeth), which draw visitors from across the country. Beyond passenger benefits, the route is vital for the transportation of coal, cement, fertilisers, bricks, and stones. The doubling is expected to facilitate an additional 15 million tonnes of freight annually. The government estimates that the project will reduce oil imports by 5 crore litres, cut carbon emissions by 24 crore kilograms, and contribute to employment generation while supporting regional economic growth.
