Centre of Excellence In Artificial Intelligence With NVIDIA Facility Launched In Uttarakhand

ENA State 2025-09-17 16:59:23 Dehradun, Sep 17 (KNN) Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh on Monday inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence, Skill Development, and Innovation at Graphic Era (Deemed to be University) in Uttarakhand. Highlighting the dual potential of artificial intelligence, the Minister stressed that integrity must underpin its application. AI can create miracles if used judiciously, but without integrity it can also be misused, as seen in the rise of deepfakes and misinformation. Integrity has no technological substitute, he said. He emphasised that AI should complement rather than replace human intelligence and advocated a hybrid model combining technology with human judgment. The Centre, spread across 1.5 lakh sq. ft., is the first of its kind in Uttarakhand. It houses an Apple iOS Development Centre, developed in collaboration with Apple and Infosys, and the states first NVIDIA AI and High-Performance Computing facility. Powered by an NVIDIA DGX B200 system with eight GPUs and 1.74 TB GPU memory, the facility—developed at a cost of over Rs 10 crore—will support research in healthcare, agriculture, environment, smart cities, and advanced industries. Graphic Era University, accredited with an A+ grade by NAAC and ranked 48th in NIRF 2025, has positioned itself as Indias first Generative AI Ready Campus powered by AWS. The university leadership said the new Centre would serve as a national hub for skill development, research, and entrepreneurship, aligned with the governments Digital India, Startup India, and Skill India initiatives. Sharing examples of AI deployment, Dr. Singh referred to telemedicine vans operating in rural areas, where hybrid AI-human systems have brought healthcare to villages lacking medical access. He also linked AI applications to governance, noting its potential in grievance redressal while cautioning that technology without accountability cannot fulfil public expectations. The Minister underlined the importance of linking academic research with industry and startups to sustain this momentum. Every tool has a self-limiting utility if integrity is compromised. Only when we combine innovation with honesty can we truly shape Indias digital future, he concluded.
