ENA Economy 2025-09-25 17:02:48 <p><span style="font-size:14px"><strong>New Delhi, Sep 25 (KNN)</strong> The Cabinet has approved a new scheme on Capacity Building and Human Resource Development.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research / Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR/CSIR), with a total outlay of Rs 2,277.397 crore for the Fifteenth Finance Commission cycle (2021-22 to 2025-26).</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The decision aims to strengthen Indias research ecosystem by expanding opportunities for young researchers and supporting institutions engaged in science and technology development.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Implemented by CSIR, the scheme will cover R&amp;D institutions, national laboratories, universities, Institutes of National Importance, and Institutes of Eminence.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The programme is designed to nurture talent in Science, Technology &amp; Engineering, Medical, and Mathematical Sciences (STEMM), providing researchers with mentorship from senior scientists and faculty.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">It also contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by increasing the researcher-to-population ratio in the country.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">India has made significant progress in scientific research over the past decade, improving its position to 39th in the 2024 Global Innovation Index, according to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The country also ranks among the top three globally in scientific paper publications, as per U.S National Science Foundation (NSF) data.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The umbrella scheme brings together multiple initiatives, including doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships, extramural and emeritus scientist programmes along with the Bhatnagar Fellowship, awards to promote and recognise excellence, and provisions for knowledge-sharing through travel and symposia grants.</span></p> <p><em><strong><span style="font-size:14px">(KNN Bureau)</span></strong></em></p> 43626 https://knnindia.co.in/news/newsdetails/economy/rs-2277-cr-dsir-scheme-sanctioned-to-nurture-talent-in-maths-science-engineering-medical 2025-09-25 17:02:48 knnindia.co.in
