Carlsberg to Invest Rs 1,250 Crore in India’s Food Processing Sector

ENA Sectors 2025-09-30 16:54:29 New Delhi, Sep 30 (KNN) Carlsberg, the Danish brewing giant, has announced a major investment of Rs 1,250 crore in Indias food processing industry. The commitment was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) at the World Food India 2025 event held in New Delhi from September 25 to 28. The investment plan focuses on both greenfield and brownfield projects across three states. Carlsberg will invest Rs 500 crore in a new greenfield facility in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra. In addition, Rs 400 crore will be used to expand its existing facility in Hooghly, West Bengal, and Rs 350 crore will go towards expansion in Mysuru, Karnataka. The company highlighted that the projects, spread over the next three years, will create direct and indirect employment opportunities while strengthening local procurement networks. Carlsberg India estimates that it will source raw materials and packaging worth nearly Rs 600 crore from local industries. This includes inputs from sectors such as malt production, glass, cans, cardboard and logistics. Nilesh Patel, Managing Director of Carlsberg India, said the investment reflects the companys long-term confidence in the Indian market. He added that the expansion will enhance brewing and packaging capabilities while also generating economic benefits for the states through excise revenues, supply chain growth and job creation. With this commitment, Carlsberg aims to play a stronger role in Indias food processing journey, aligning with the governments vision of attracting foreign and domestic investment into the sector.
