ENA Sectors 2025-10-17 18:03:09 <p><span style="font-size:14px"><strong>New Delhi, Oct 17 (KNN)</strong> Indias growing prominence as a base for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) is now giving rise to a new trend &mdash; the expansion of Global Legal and Compliance Centres (GLCCs). </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">These centres are transforming from back-office units into strategic engines driving legal innovation, governance excellence, and multinational decision-making.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Currently, around 10% of Indias 1,800 GCCs host legal and compliance functions &mdash; about 180 GLCCs employing nearly 6,000 lawyers across sectors like banking, pharmaceuticals, retail, technology, and energy. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">What were once seen as back-office support units are now strategic hubs, said Ananya Sanyal, strategic partner at Counselect.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Fortune 500 companies such as JPMorgan, Soci&eacute;t&eacute; G&eacute;n&eacute;rale, and Unilever have integrated Indian GLCCs into their global operations. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">These centres handle contract drafting, compliance monitoring, and even business strategy. Indias deep talent pool, digital strength, scalability, and cost competitiveness make it ideal for global integration, said Sanjit Batra, Group VP and Legal Head, Cummins India.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">To sustain growth, GLCCs are investing in leadership development and business training to create future-ready legal professionals. Many have introduced intrapreneurship and leadership accelerator programmes, while partnering with top law schools such as the National Law School of India University.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Leading GLCCs are also experimenting with flexible hiring &mdash; including short-term secondments and collaborations with legal service providers &mdash; to build agility and scalability.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">As GLCCs expand, they are reshaping the legal ecosystem, prompting traditional law firms to adopt technology and enhance efficiency. However, experts stress collaboration over competition.
