ICG, PCG Convene Maiden Bilateral Meeting In Manila To Boost Indo-Pacific Maritime Security

ENA Sectors 2025-12-03 15:57:30 New Delhi, Dec 3 (KNN) The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) convened their maiden annual bilateral meeting in Manila on December 2, 2025 under the framework of an agreement signed two years ago. Both sides reviewed recent ship visits, professional exchanges and ongoing cooperative activities, and agreed to deepen collaboration to enhance interoperability and operational coordination. The discussions were aligned with Indias Act East Policy and regional maritime initiatives such as Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) and the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI), which promote a secure and stable maritime environment. Key areas of focus included Maritime Search and Rescue, Maritime Law Enforcement, Marine Pollution Response and Capacity Building. The meeting was co-chaired by ICG Commander (Eastern Seaboard), Additional Director General Donny Michael, and PCG Deputy Commandant for Operations, Vice Admiral Edgar L. Ybanez. Officials underscored that strengthened cooperation between the two Coast Guards is an important pillar of the India Philippines strategic partnership, supporting regional peace, stability and effective maritime governance. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to regular institutional interactions, training exchanges, best-practice sharing and ship visits. The meeting highlighted the shared intent of India and the Philippines to advance operational synergy and work jointly toward ensuring maritime security, safety and environmental sustainability in the Indo-Pacific.
