New Delhi, Dec 16 (KNN) Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday that the Government has installed 19,45,758 rooftop solar (RTS) systems across the country under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) as of December 9, 2025, benefiting 24,35,196 households.

Launched in February 2024, the scheme aims to install rooftop solar systems in one crore households by FY 2026 27, with a total outlay of Rs 75,021 crore. The objective is to promote clean energy adoption in the residential sector while reducing electricity costs for households.

According to the Minister, 7,71,580 households reported zero electricity bills during at least one billing cycle after installing RTS systems, as reported by DISCOMs.

The government has disbursed Rs 13,926.25 crore as Central Financial Assistance (CFA) for 17.74 lakh installations so far.

To enhance affordability and economic viability, the scheme provides collateral-free loans at an interest rate of 5.75 per cent (Repo rate + 0.50 bps). As of the reporting date, over 8.30 lakh loan applications have been sanctioned.

To expand access among rural households and economically weaker sections, the Ministry has also issued guidelines for installations through Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) and RESCO models.

State-wise performance highlights show Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Rajasthan among the leading states in RTS adoption.

Gujarat alone accounts for over 4.93 lakh installations, while Kerala has reported more than 1.17 lakh consumers receiving zero electricity bills.

(KNN Bureau)
