ENA Economy 2026-01-07 17:06:59 New Delhi, Jan 7 (KNN) The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Tuesday announced plans to organise Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav (BVM) 2026, a four-day national trade exposition scheduled to be held from May 1 to 4, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event is being positioned as the largest national trade expo to date, aimed at strengthening domestic commerce and enhancing Indias global trade engagement. Alignment with National Trade Vision Addressing a press conference in the capital, CAIT National Secretary General and Chandni Chowk Member of Parliament Praveen Khandelwal said the initiative aligns with the governments emphasis on Atmanirbhar Bharat, Vocal for Local and Local to Global. He noted that evolving global trade conditions, including tariff-related challenges and geopolitical tensions, have underscored the need to consolidate Indias domestic trade capabilities. According to CAIT, Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav will serve as the flagship initiative under a broader nationwide Indian Trade Movement being launched by the organisation. Scale and Participation CAIT estimates that BVM 2026 will feature over 2,000 exhibition stalls, attract more than 2 lakh traders, and draw close to 1 million visitors over the four-day period. The event is expected to facilitate business transactions, partnerships and investment opportunities across a wide range of sectors. A promotional video for the Mahotsav was also released during the press conference to support nationwide outreach. Focus on MSMEs and Inclusive Growth The Mahotsav is expected to place special emphasis on micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), women and youth entrepreneurs, artisans, startups, cooperative institutions, self-help groups and traditional industries. CAIT said the exhibition will promote export growth and import substitution, while highlighting Indias manufacturing, services and entrepreneurial ecosystem. Khandelwal said the event seeks to reflect the concept of One Nation One Market and to highlight the linkage between Indias cultural heritage and its trading traditions. Sectoral Coverage and Thematic Zones BVM 2026 will span 24 sectors and verticals and will be organised across eight thematic zones, including business-to-business engagement, product exhibitions, investment and finance, tourism and handicrafts, education and skill development, regional foods, and platforms dedicated to women and youth enterprises. Planned activities include buyer-seller meets, startup pitching sessions, investor interactions, on-the-spot credit facilitation, product launches, export facilitation desks and structured policy discussions on trade reforms and ease of doing business.
