The decision was formalised through a presidential memorandum issued on January 7 by President Donald Trump and includes exits from major climate-related bodies such as the India-headquartered International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). While the US exit from the ISA—an initiative led by India and France to expand global solar capacity—is not expected to affect its core objectives, the move has drawn attention as the administration had not earlier indicated plans to withdraw from the grouping.
