New Delhi, Feb 27 (KNN) The Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has approved the development of a dedicated jetty for handling green hydrogen, ammonia and other liquid cargo at Paradip Port Authority, with an estimated project cost of Rs 797.17 crore.

The facility will be implemented on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis and is expected to be completed within 24 months.

The proposed jetty will have a handling capacity of 4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and is intended to position Paradip Port as a key hub for green energy cargo.

The project will include a dedicated berth, storage infrastructure, pipelines, cargo handling systems and associated facilities.

The berth will feature a centre-to-centre distance of 279 metres between extreme end dolphins and a dredged depth of 14.3 metres to enable safe handling of liquid cargo vessels.

The port authority will provide capital support equivalent to 20 per cent of the project cost amounting to Rs 159.43 crore during the construction phase.

Officials said the infrastructure is designed to support the growing requirements of green hydrogen and its derivatives, while also accommodating other liquid cargo to ensure optimal utilisation during the sectors initial growth phase.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said the approval reflects the Centres efforts to develop future-ready green infrastructure.

He stated that the initiative aligns with the clean energy vision articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and supports the broader objectives of the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

According to the Ministry, the dedicated jetty is expected to strengthen export logistics, facilitate integration of Odishas emerging green hydrogen production clusters with global markets, and catalyse investments in clean energy infrastructure in eastern India.

The facility will incorporate specialised systems and advanced safety mechanisms for the handling and storage of green energy derivatives, contributing to the development of an integrated green hydrogen ecosystem around Paradip Port.

(KNN Bureau)
