Middle East Crisis: Govt Sets Up Inter-Ministerial Group To Strengthen Supply Chain Resilience

ENA Economy 2026-03-05 12:13:02 New Delhi, Mar 5 (KNN) The Union government has set up an Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) on Supply Chain Resilience to ensure that trade is least affected in the wake of ongoing conflict in West Asia and Middle East triggered by joint US-Israel military operations against Iran. The move followed a meeting held on March 2, 2026 by the Special Secretary of the Department of Commerce and the Director General of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). During the high-level meeting, the potential impact of ongoing geopolitical developments on Indias exports was assessed. The IMG has been constituted under the Department of Commerce to closely monitor global developments affecting supply chains and to assess sector-wise vulnerabilities in exports as well as critical imports. It will facilitate coordination among various ministries and departments, engage with stakeholders including Export Promotion Councils, and recommend appropriate mitigation measures wherever required to address emerging challenges. In addition, an internal coordination mechanism has been established within the Directorate General of Foreign Trade to enable real-time tracking of issues and strengthen inter-agency coordination. Trade and industry stakeholders have been encouraged to bring specific concerns related to supply chain disruptions to the notice of authorities so that these can be consolidated, monitored, and examined for appropriate policy coordination. The operationalisation of the IMG has been carried out with the approval of the competent authority.
