ENA Sectors 2026-03-10 17:19:27 <p><span style="font-size:14px"><strong>New Delhi, Mar 10 (KNN)</strong> The Rs 10,000 crore Biopharma SHAKTI scheme would strengthen Indias domestic biopharmaceutical ecosystem and enhance global competitiveness in biologics and biosimilars, Minister of State (MoS) for Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel said on Tuesday in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The MoS said that the initiative is expected to strengthen Indias pharmaceutical industry while supporting innovation-driven growth in the biopharma sector.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The Biopharma SHAKTI scheme seeks to boost the development and manufacturing of high-value biopharmaceutical products in India, reduce import dependence and strengthen the countrys presence in the global biologics supply chain.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The move comes as Indias disease burden increasingly shifts towards non-communicable diseases such as Diabetes, Cancer and autoimmune disorders, where biologic medicines are playing an expanding role in improving longevity and quality of life.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">As part of the initiative, the government plans to expand the biopharmaceutical research and training network by establishing three new campuses of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) and upgrading seven existing institutes.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The expansion is aimed at addressing the growing demand for specialised human resources in biopharma research, development, manufacturing and regulatory science.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The scheme also envisages the creation of a large-scale clinical research ecosystem to strengthen Indias capacity to conduct advanced clinical trials.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">In addition, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) will be reinforced through the establishment of a dedicated scientific review cadre to accelerate regulatory approvals and enhance the credibility of Indias regulatory framework at the global level.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Another key component of the programme focuses on early-stage innovation support.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The government plans to provide structured funding and equity support to startups and industry players to help promising biopharmaceutical candidates progress from concept to critical development milestones.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px"><em><strong>(KNN Bureau)</strong></em></span></p> 45408 https://knnindia.co.in/news/newsdetails/sectors/rs-10000-crore-biopharma-shakti-initiative-to-make-india-global-biopharma-hub-says-minister 2026-03-10 17:19:27 knnindia.co.in
