Qatar Assures Steady LNG Supplies To India Amid West Asia Crisis

Qatars Energy Minister Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi conveyed this assurance during talks with Indias Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in Doha. Both sides welcomed the two-week ceasefire announced on April 8 and stressed the need for an early restoration of stability in global energy markets. They underlined the importance of ensuring unimpeded freedom of navigation and smooth global trade flows to maintain supply chains, PTI reported. The discussions come at a time when India is seeking to secure energy supplies amid disruptions in global fuel trade. Qatar remains Indias largest supplier of LNG and a key source of LPG. India relies heavily on imports to meet about half of its natural gas demand and nearly two-thirds of its LPG consumption, with a significant share sourced from West Asia. The six-week conflict severely disrupted energy exports from Gulf countries, leading to supply shortages and price pressures. During the visit, both ministers reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral ties, including energy cooperation, trade, investment, and people-to-people relations. Discussions also focused on restoring shipments, reviewing existing agreements, and exploring ways to deepen long-term energy collaboration. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the India Qatar partnership.
