ENA Sectors 2026-04-20 15:36:47 <p><span style="font-size:14px"><strong>New Delhi, Apr 20 (KNN) </strong>The central government has approved a set of procurement measures covering potatoes in Uttar Pradesh, chana in Andhra Pradesh, and an extension of tur procurement in Karnataka. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The decisions, cleared by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, are aimed at ensuring farmers receive remunerative prices and are protected from distress sales amid market volatility.</span></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size:14px">Potato Procurement Approved in Uttar Pradesh</span></strong></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has approved the Uttar Pradesh governments proposal to procure potatoes under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) for the 2025 26 agricultural year.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">Under the scheme, 20 lakh metric tonnes of potatoes will be procured at a Market Intervention Price of Rs 6,500.9 per metric tonne. The Centres financial contribution is estimated at Rs 203.15 crore. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The move is expected to stabilise prices and support potato farmers by ensuring assured returns.<br /> <br /> <strong>Chana Procurement Expanded in Andhra Pradesh</strong></span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">In Andhra Pradesh, the Centre has approved procurement of chana (Bengal gram) under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The initial approval for 94,500 metric tonnes has been enhanced to a maximum limit of 1,13,250 metric tonnes following a request from the state government.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The revised procurement limit is expected to provide relief to farmers by enabling sales at assured prices and reducing the risk of distress selling.</span></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size:14px">Tur Procurement Extended in Karnataka</span></strong></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The government has also approved a 30-day extension for procurement of tur (pigeon pea) at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) under PSS in Karnataka for the Kharif 2025 26 season.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">With the extension, procurement will continue until 15 May 2026, allowing more farmers to participate and benefit from MSP-based sales.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px"><em><strong>(KNN Bureau)</strong></em></span><br /> </p> 45855 https://knnindia.co.in/news/newsdetails/sectors/govt-approves-crop-procurement-for-potato-chana-in-up-extends-tur-msp-in-karnataka 2026-04-20 15:36:47 knnindia.co.in
