ENA Sectors 2026-05-12 17:34:45 <p><span style="font-size:14px"><strong>New Delhi, May 12 (KNN)</strong> Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant has constituted a Judicial Infrastructure Advisory Committee to develop a comprehensive roadmap for upgrading court infrastructure across India. </span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The panel will focus on securing government support and funding in the range of Rs 40,000 Rs 50,000 crore for courts nationwide.</span></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">According to a communication issued on May 8, 2026 by Supreme Court Secretary General Bharat Parashar, the committee will outline infrastructure requirements and present its recommendations to Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of the Economic Advisory Council to Prime Minister (EAC-PM).</span></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size:14px">Composition of the Panel</span></strong></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The committee will be chaired by Supreme Court Justice Aravind Kumar. Its members include Justice Debangsu Basak, Calcutta High Court, Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, Punjab and Haryana High Court, and Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan, Bombay High Court, along with the Director General of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). The Secretary General of the Supreme Court will serve as Member Secretary.</span></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size:14px">Focus on Infrastructure and Technology</span></strong></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The panel has been tasked with identifying gaps in the current judicial infrastructure and recommending improvements for judges, court staff, lawyers, litigants and visitors. It will also suggest measures to strengthen technology systems, enabling faster information exchange and reducing delays in case disposal.</span></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size:14px">Push for Digital and Citizen-Centric Reforms</span></strong></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">The committee will propose steps for computerisation of courts under the e-courts initiative, recommend citizen-focused services to improve accessibility, and suggest ways to bridge the digital divide in the justice system.</span></p> <p><strong><span style="font-size:14px">Timeline for Report Submission</span></strong></p> <p><span style="font-size:14px">In addition, the panel will examine the need for modern court complexes and better working conditions for judicial and administrative staff to enhance efficiency.
