Finished steel exports up by 36%, import rises by 62% in August: Data

New Delhi, Sept 26 (KNN) The total exports of finished steel for the month of August registered an upward trend, registering a surge of over 36 per cent, a report by the Joint Plant Committee under the Ministry of Steel informed.

According to the report, the export of finished steel in August from India stood at 0.923 million tonne, whereas the volume during the same period of the previous year was around 0.679 million tonne.

Citing statistics for the April-August period, the export registered positive number of 3.73 million tonne as compared to the 2.37 per cent figure of the corresponding month in the previous year.

While the exports have been positive, India also registered high numbers in terms of its import of finished steel.

The report suggests that in the month of August, the imports stood high by over 62 per cent year on year.

Also the data of April-August period reveals that the import of finished steel is up by over 15.9 per cent, amounting to a volume of 3.458 million tonne as compared to the 2.983 million tonne in the previous year’s corresponding period. (KNN/DA)
