Khadi to go international, KVIC plans stores in Dubai-Paris by 2018

New Delhi, Aug 4 (KNN) Eyeing at increased growth of the sector, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) under the Ministry of Micro, Small and medium Enterprises (MSME), is planning to open up its outlets abroad by end of this year.

In the first phase of taking Khadi abroad, KVIC will be opening up stores in Dubai and Paris.

KVIC Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena in a press interview said that khadi as a brand of clothing has gained significance in the recent past with the Prime Minister himself promoting the brand.

The Khadi variant of different brands including Beri is already in business and is earning good profits. Raymond, Allen Solly and Turtle have also signed MoUs with the Khadi Board seeking permission to introduce their variant of the khadi garment.

Also the khadi sales in the recent times have registered growth in sales up to 70 per cent.  In 2016-17, the KVIC registered sales of 2,0005 crores while the sale from 2015-16 was around 1,520 crores.

The KVIC has set a target of achieving 5000 crore mark in sales by the end of 2018-19. (KNN/ DA)
