Bihar drug controller bans ofloxacin, pharma MSMEs seek clarification
Patna, Sept 25 (KNN) The Bihar drug controller authority earlier issued a notification banning the combination of levofloxacin and ofloxacin, without issuing the proper show-cause and inviting replies, pharma MSME association Confederation of Indian Pharmaceutical Industry (CIPI) said.
CIPI in a press statement informed that it has sought clarification on the ban notification of levofloxacin and ofloxacin, for pediatric use in the state.
Also industry body, Bihar Drugs & Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association (BDPMA) has raised similar concerns over the notification.
The association informed that as a result of the uncalled ban, hundreds of Micro and Small enterprises involved in the sector have been adversely affected.
It further said that banning a drug if at all harmful is of no use if the ban is imposed just in one state. Had it been unsafe, the drug would have been banned in the entire country.
Different pharma MSME associations including CIPI and BDPMA have sought the intervention of the State Chief Minister as well as the health minister in this regard.
Also the association has written to Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) seeking intervention in the matter. (KNN/DA)
