CITD introduces tech based manufacturing solutions to help firecracker MSMEs

New Delhi, Sept 9 (KNN) In response to the rising number of casualties in the firecracker industry comprising of over 80 per cent of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country, the Central Institute of Tool Design (CITD) is working on technology based manufacturing machines that can help the sector.
Shujayat Khan, Principal Director of CITD in a press interview informed about the latest development.
Khan said that in a first, the CTID has developed a pneumatically operated special purpose machine for manufacturing of sparklers and automated Sparkler Dipping Machine, reducing the vulnerability of the workers in the industry.
Khan informed that the micro and small units from Tamil Nadu’s Sivakasi region have been approaching the centre demanding solutions to the manual hand labour involved in the different processes of the firecracker manufacturing at the units, following which the CITD started its research.
With the machines replacing the manual work, the sector is expecting a decline in the accidents in the firecracker MSMEs over the coming years as the units start to adapt the machine, which still remains a challenge.
Khan also informed that other industries including the flowerpot manufacturers have approached CITD demanding similar solutions for better and sustainable manufacturing. (KNN/ DA)
