SIDBI announces merchant banking operations, aims at assisting MSMEs

New Delhi, July 26 (KNN) In a bid to help facilitate expansion of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) of the country, Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) recently announced full-fledged merchant banking operations.
Through dedicated merchant banking operations’, SIDBi aims to assist MSMEs connect to the capital market including SME Trading Platform as well as Institutional Trading Platforms.
In a press interview Ajay Kapur, Deputy Managing Director of SIDBI informed that the bank has supported more than hundred venture capital funds. Through the merchant banking operations, SIDBi will provide support to the MSMEs join the SME exchange portal.
Also since the bank has been engaged with the sector by extending direct credit, it expects that a large number of MSMEs would like to get listed on the SME exchanges.
Commenting further, Kapur added that in the recent times there has been a significant rise in the number of venture funds active in the MSME sector. This indicates that the fast growing companies do seek public market, therefore the bank’s merchant banking operation will prove to be beneficial for the MSMEs as well as investors making it a win-win situation for both the stakeholders.
