Surat textile traders suffer as floods sweep Bihar-UP

New Delhi, Aug 25 (KNN) In the aftermath of the huge loss to the textile industry of Surat, the sector is facing its second phase of loss due to the slowed distribution of its goods to the main consumer states including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, especially ahead of festival time.
Manoj Agarwal, President of Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association, in a press interview informed that the situation of the textile industry is beginning to move from bad to worse.
He informed that due to the ongoing floods in the northern states of U.P, Bihar and Assam, the orders that were made for the retailers in these states for the upcoming festive season are being cancelled. The retailers are cancelling the order are the business in these states is badly affected due to the floods.
Citing statistics, Aggarwal added that by now over 60-70 per cent of the advance orders for different textile items including Sarees, salwar kurta have already been cancelled, causing a huge rise in the stock of the industry in Surat.
The cancellation of orders and disruption of supply chain is also due to the lack of connectivity because of the rising water levels in these regions.
Since demonization last year the sector was struggling followed by the loss of over 1000 crores due to the strikes against the GST. (KNN/ DA)
