CPCB issues closure notice to 295 units in Maharashtra for not installing CMS

Mumbai, Oct 26 (KNN) The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has asked the state pollution control board to issue closure notices to 295 units in Maharashtra region for not installing online continuous monitoring systems (CMS).

Talking to KNN, Rajendra Kothari, President, Bombay Industries Association (BIA) said, “The pollution control board has already issued notices to 295 units earlier to install CMS. But some industries did not do it.”

He said, “I am not aware of the closure notice but notice to install online CMS was issued long ago and enough time was given.”

He said this is a good move which would even curb inspector raj so the industries must follow this.

The violating industries are of sugar, distillery, pharmaceutical, dye and iron & steel units.

According to a media report quoting Maharashtra Pollution Control Board Official, the closure notices have been issued after the units didn’t follow the all India order issued to act on this.

The CPCB had issued orders in February 2014 and March 2015 to all units under category 17 of highly polluting industries to install CMS to facilitate real-time and remote monitoring of effluents released by them. (KNN Bureau)
